Hi, Ya’ll — Joe Berry and I will submit a proposal for this AERA 2022 based on our upcoming book (see below).  We will lay out an example of CHAT in practice: how the theory gets animated and re-shaped by its use as a guide to understanding changing conditions and purposeful action and how it lends focus to visions of how the future may look. The case study we use is from the California State University system and the union, California Faculty Association, that represents Lecturers.

Common themes of research and conversation draw on Vygotsky, Luria, Leont’ev, Bakhtin, Mead, and many others. The aim of this SIG is to bring together scholars applying cultural-historical-theoretical frameworks, and to develop their use further in order to foster the exchange and development of new ideas. We welcome innovative, theoretical and empirical work as well as micro- and macro-level analysis within historically evolving formal and non-formal contexts. We encourage proposals on a range of topics including, but not limited to, cultural-historical research that connects with art; activism; theoretical explorations with Critical Theory, Critical Race Theory, Queer Theory, Critical Indigenous Theory, Feminist Theory, Organization Studies, Learning Sciences, Education, Cultural Psychology, Human-Computer Interaction, Dialogism, and Discourse Theory, and related approaches. Also, methodological innovations that bridge C-H theory with lenses such as Participatory Action Research, Design-based Research, Visual Methods, etc. are of interest. Please note that we are also developing sessions exploring how we can leverage technologies to design for robust learning, especially lessons learned from teaching, researching, and designing during the global pandemic.
