There's a long history here, unfortunately. I ask students to read Chapter 5, The hereditarian theory of IQ, from Gould's (1981), The mismeasure of man, to share a bit of that history. The relation between assessment and the Immigration Act in the U.S. is particularly disturbing when some of those who contributed to policy later recanted. Psychology has a complicated history to say the least. Best to all - jen
